The Board of InterGlobe Aviation Limited (IndiGo) has announced the appointment of William Walsh as the Chief Executive Officer, subject to regulatory approvals.
William Walsh, currently serving as Director General of the International Air Transport Association (IATA), will conclude his tenure at IATA on July 31, 2026, and is expected to join IndiGo no later than August 3, 2026.
William Walsh, widely known as Willie, brings decades of global aviation leadership experience to IndiGo. William Walsh has previously served as CEO of British Airways and International Airlines Group (IAG), the holding company of Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level, and Vueling.
His appointment signals a strategic leadership transition as IndiGo prepares for its next phase of growth.

William Walsh is regarded as one of the most influential and respected leaders in modern aviation history. Known for his pragmatic leadership style, William Walsh has led complex restructuring initiatives and successfully executed mergers and acquisitions across major airline groups.
William Walsh to Oversee Overall Management and Strategic Direction of IndiGo
The career of William Walsh spans multiple leadership roles, beginning as a pilot and later serving as Chief Operating Officer and CEO of Aer Lingus from 2000 to 2005. He went on to become CEO of British Airways from 2005 to 2011, followed by his tenure as CEO of International Airlines Group (IAG) from 2011 to 2020. Since then, William Walsh has served as Director General of IATA.
In his new role, William Walsh will oversee the overall management and strategic direction of IndiGo. His responsibilities will include driving transformational initiatives, strengthening operational performance, advancing network and commercial strategy, and enhancing customer experience.
William Walsh will work closely with the Board and leadership team to position IndiGo for its next phase of expansion.
